Coventry MP says ‘pre-fab’ homes could be vital in fighting housing crisis

COVENTRY MP Jim Cunningham has praised new modular factory-assembled homes as a way to fight the housing crisis.

As we reported last week, the homes are constructed in a factory then transported – much like post-war prefabricated housing.

And the completed Littlethorpe development – in Mr Cunningham’s Coventry South constituency – means new residents will be moving into a new two-bedroom and three-bedroom home in Willenhall over the next few weeks.

Mr Cunningham visited Cradley Heath manufacturer Totally Modular’s factory to see how the homes could supply the increasing demand for affordable housing in the region, amid a national shortage.

He said: “I was very pleased to get a chance to visit Totally Modular’s development in partnership with Citizen and Coventry City Council in my constituency.

“It was extremely useful to hear first-hand about the cutting edge of modular housing.

“I was greatly impressed not only with the quality of the finished product but also with the speed in which it had been assembled and then constructed.

“I believe that such innovation is vital if we are to get a grip on the demand for housing in Great Britain.”

The properties will have many benefits which include reduced fuel bills and excellent energy ratings, developers claim.
